The worlds of Barry

Barry Rescuer

The most famous image of Barry: a dog with its barrel around its neck, ready to rescue walkers lost in the snow and fog. And rightly so, as this was their first mission. In the 19th century, the St. Bernards’ reputation for saving many human lives on the pass spread throughout Europe. The legend of Barry Rescuer was born. The stories on the walls of the museum will tell you more.

Barry Star

Over time, Barry has become a real icon of Swiss culture; he is part of our heritage. Old prints, postcards, stamps, advertising posters or even films: representations of the St. Bernard have shaped the collective imagination, both in Switzerland and abroad. An exhibition highlights this incredible impact.

Barry Friend

Discover St. Bernards in their current mission as therapy assistance dogs. Gentle, calm and attached to humans, St. Bernards naturally seek contact. The Barry Foundation visits many people throughout Switzerland every year, whatever their age or situation. These interactions are based on the idea that the dog’s presence gives physical, mental, emotional and social strength to the beneficiaries.

Barry Bon Vivant

On the top floor of Barryland you can immerse yourself in the everyday life of St. Bernards. Watch them in their crates or in the treatment room, where they are pampered, cared for and lovingly trained day after day. These new spaces meet the latest animal welfare standards.

Barry Playmate

Three vast outdoor runs offer the dogs the perfect space to play and explore. These are directly connected to their indoor kennels and allow the St. Bernards to roam completely freely between inside and out. These grounds are a real microcosm of alpine countryside: prairies, rocks, shrubs and trees typical of Valais come together to create an environment that is as natural as it is rewarding.
