Archaeology
What do we know about dogs before Barry? Unearth some answers here, where the physical evolution of dogs is traced back through skeletons discovered at archaeological sites in Valais, dating from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages.

History
Find out more about the history of the dogs at the Great Saint Bernard Hospice, first mentioned as early as 1708. Over the centuries, the Canons and dogs have forged an exceptional bond that has become an integral part of the pass’s history.

Collections
Vintage items, engravings, a collection of stamps and postcards from all over the world dedicated to St. Bernards, and much more besides. Some of the Barry Foundation’s precious collections can be found at Barryland.

Social role
Since 2007, the Barry Foundation has been focusing on animal-assisted interventions. The St. Bernard, friendly and good with people, has found a new purpose. This strong commitment even led to a dedicated training programme being launched in 2017.

With the St. Bernards
Dog care and activities
At certain times, you can watch care taking place in a glass-walled room open to the public and discover the secrets behind the dogs’ well-being. The dogs also take part in fun and stimulating activities during these sessions, including treasure hunts, skill challenges, brain teasers, mobility exercises, and more.

Canine physiotherapy
Our dogs have access to a modern, fully equipped treatment room, featuring a hydrotherapy pool and a motorised balance platform. Thanks to the large windows, you can watch hydrotherapy sessions that are held at specific times.

Outings with St. Bernards
Enjoy some quality time with the Barry Foundation’s St. Bernards on unforgettable hikes near Champex-Lac in winter or at the Great Saint Bernard Pass in summer.
